Winter has hit us hard this year. It is cold, sub zero temperatures in January, unusually cold for Maryland. All the greens in the hoophouse have diminished; seedlings from late Fall plantings have perished. My friend found a chicken, frozen to death, in the coop last week while we were away. Eggs in the nesting box freeze solid and crack if not collected within a few hours of being laid. The upside- this kind of cold can kill ticks and fleas; garden pests and some soil diseases. It forces me to stay inside, at my computer, planning the next season. Ideally this will make me more efficient….Stay warm and be well.
