Welcome to Oak Spring Farm’s first blog post of the New Year.

As we step into 2024, the air is filled with the promise of new beginnings, self-reflection, and the age-old tradition of setting intentions.

Beyond the common buzz of New Year’s resolutions, intention setting for me is about cultivating commitment and purpose in various areas of my life.

It’s not about drastic change; Nor is it about stopping something I don’t like (or something I do like).  It’s about making small improvements on what is already going well. Paying attention to the good stuff gets me more of it. If you see what I’m saying…

So for example add on to the good habit of eating well by committing to eating an extra serving of vegetables every day vs. omitting chocolate from your diet (Never from MY diet).

The Ritual of Intention Setting

Setting intentions is more than just wishful thinking; it’s a practice rooted in personal development, spiritual growth, and professional planning. Picture this: the flicker of your favorite candle, the resonance of high-frequency music, and a moment of deep breaths before putting pen to paper to articulate your intentions for the year ahead.

Remember to pause and celebrate the wins of 2023. Take a moment to pat yourself on the back for the small wins as well as the major ones.

A Wise Tradition: ‘What’s Your Word?’

My friend Karen Dubs, a CSA member, health coach, yoga teacher, and dog rescuer, introduced me to the tradition of ‘What’s Your Word?’

This tradition extends beyond the typical New Year’s rush and encourages a more measured approach.

According to Karen, the official new year doesn’t truly begin until the first new moon and the first full moon. Her advice is soothing for those feeling rushed: “Breathe. We have plenty of time…”

She offers three guiding principles: Attitude (positive warrior spirit), Alignment (knowing what you want and why, aligning in all areas of life), and ACTION (consistent doing for results).

The Three A’s: Attitude, Alignment, ACTION

Embracing the 3 A’s – Attitude, Alignment, and ACTION – is a compass for navigating the journey of intention setting. Positive warrior spirit, knowing your desires and aligning in all areas of life, and taking consistent action are the keys to turning intentions into reality.

My Word for 2024: BUILD

Amid New Year’s resolutions, I  find solace in choosing a single word to guide the year.

“BUILD” holds significance in multiple realms:
  • Building resilience in the local food system
  • Building muscle
  • Building a new business (yes, I have news)
  • Building new skills
  • Building community

For me, this word acts as a North Star, grounding me in a routine that aligns with my goals and aspirations.  It keeps me coming back to center.

Share Your Word for 2024: Join the Conversation

What’s your word?

Share your intentions and join the conversation. Respond to me privately, add a comment to this blog or head to the Facebook page and share it there. Together we can inspire each other with our words for 2024.

Whether it’s a single word or a list of aspirations, I’d love to hear from you.

For those interested in delving deeper into intention setting, check out www.flexiblewarrior.com for information on classes and workshops. Karen has in-person workshops and online classes.  Perhaps, I’ll see you at a local class, embarking on a journey of purpose, commitment, and growth.

Happy building, and here’s to a purposeful year that I hope includes Oak Spring farm-fresh, nutrient-dense produce.

How Does My Word Have Anything To Do with Oak Spring Farm’s CSA?

I’m so glad you asked!

I built this farm on my passion for growing the best organic veggies I can for my family and yours. My mission is deeply rooted in the belief that when we commit to being our best selves the whole world benefits.

You are what you eat. We must eat to live. What we eat fuels our bodies and brains. What we eat can give us energy, vitality and health or it can make us feel tired, depressed and sickly. We choose.

An easy one-time commitment for Oak Spring’s 2024 Whole Season CSA will fill your fridge with fresh, nutrient-dense organic produce ALL SEASON LONG so if your word is something like HEALTH, NUTRITION, or COMMITMENT (to yourself) we can help.

It could be the most important step in helping you fulfill your intention to be the healthiest YOU in 2024.

Already in the CSA for 2024. Give yourself a high five. You’re already one step closer to a healthier you in 2024.

Happy New Year. Happy You.
