Do you choose a single word for your year?
I do and have done it for years.
The Power of One Word: A Year-Long Anchor
Choosing a single word for the year differs fundamentally from traditional resolutions. While resolutions often fade by February, a word serves as a constant touchstone, influencing countless small decisions throughout the year.
Now, not to say having a resolution is a bad idea. I’m a believer that self-discipline is self-love and sticking to my commitments moves me forward in life. But when you make a resolution and then ‘fall off the wagon’ it’s easy to forget you ever made that commitment. Just look in the gym the first week of January and compare it to the end of March!
Think of your chosen word as a lens through which you view opportunities, challenges, and choices. I choose INTUITION for 2025. It will become more than just a word—it’s a filter for decision-making and a reminder to trust my inner guidance. My intuition has done wonders for me and I want to hone my desire and ability to follow it. I feel a change coming and I know my intuition is my best guide.
The magic of the one-word approach
Are you beginning to see the magic?
It lies in its simplicity and flexibility. Whether you’re facing a career decision, signing up for a class or choosing to eat healthier, your word can provide clarity. For example, with INTUITION as my guide, I might pause before immediately saying yes to commitments, checking in with my gut feeling first.
Common categories for choosing your word:
– Growth words: EXPAND, BUILD, LEARN
– Mindset words: COURAGE, BELIEVE, TRUST
– Action words: CREATE, MOVE, IMPLEMENT
– Being words: PRESENT, CALM, AUTHENTIC
The key is selecting a word that resonates deeply with both your current reality and your aspirations. So take some time with this decision, it’s not too late. Your word should feel like a gentle push toward growth while remaining true to who you are.

– Be broad enough for daily use
What makes one word so powerful?
It has the ability to shape behavior without the rigidity of specific goals. It’s both a commitment and a compass, guiding rather than dictating your path forward. Write it down. Put a post-it note on your bathroom mirror, your computer, your steering wheel…
For 2025, my word is INTUITION. After a year of building and creating, I’m turning inward to honor that quiet, knowing voice that has guided me to where I am today. This choice reflects my growing trust in my inner wisdom and the recognition that my most meaningful successes have come from following my gut instincts.
Intuition isn’t just about making decisions—it’s about tuning me into my authentic self. When I quiet the external noise and listen to my inner guidance, I find clarity in unexpected places.
As I step into 2025, I’m committed to:
– Pausing before decisions to check in with my inner compass
– Creating space for reflection and inner listening
– Trusting my instincts in both personal and professional realms
Your word doesn’t need to be profound—it needs to resonate with where you are and where you want to go.
